How can I accompish this task? I know there is always a solution but I am stumped at this point. Ive been working on this for months. Can you please assist me.

@Jeff Turner: The two letterhead templates are the same, except for the background image - correct? If so, could you merge them, and have them behave as the "Daisies" template does, where if you click in the background, it changes the color scheme for the template?

This way, you have one stationary file, but multiple unique looks possible when choosing it. Possible?

As stated on the other thread (http://www.technosanity.com/2007/10/27/editing-mac-mail-stationery):

Note that users may not wish to modify the:

 /Library/Application\ Support/Apple/Mail/Stationery/Apple/Contents/Resources/

…location (starting from the root of the hard drive) with their own creations, but instead should place custom entries within their own home folder, at the following path:

 ~/Library/Application\ Support/Mail/Stationery/Apple/Contents/Resources/

(where “~” represents your home folder).

This way, they will be more-easily portable via Migration Assistant, are directly a part of this single user’s environment (so a problem won’t modify behavior for any other users on the system), etc. This user-specific path is created for you if you use Mail’s “File -> Save as Stationery…” command.

jeff, please ignore last message!

followed your instructions for file placement at the top of this page more closely and it works perfectly! sorry about that!

in terms of doctoring your templates...is there an easy way to add logos to a more photo/text based template...change background colour etc?

cheers

hi jeff

sorry, having a few problems in getting the new templates to open in my mail.

i have os 10.5.4.

i download your files which works fine, double click on the file once it is fully downloaded, it opens in 'mail' as a new message but it opens the 'doodles' template and the apparent white background plain non-cute template is nowhere to be seen.

could you possibly do a step by step set of instructions of how to move the downloaded files to the correct location to enable them to be used in mail?

sorry if you've been asked this before, i've tried moving them into my mail resources folder but it didn't work.

also, is it possible to view a screen shot of your templates online?

many thanks

Lorena and Walter... I just downloaded the files again and I can't replicate your problem. When I open the package contents to take a look, all of the correct letterhead images and html content are there in good order. In addition, the EnglishDisplayNames.string contain the right information:

/* Stationery template name as appears in the stationary selection pane in the New Message window after clicking Show Stationery toolbar item. */
"Display Name" = "letterhead";

I can't figure out why you would be getting the doodle template.

Hi, like Lorena I only get "Doodle" when I double click on the downloaded templates.
Moreover my path stops at <i>Library> Application Support> Apple> Mail> Stationery> Apple> Contents> Resources</i> inside which is a Favourites.plist
So I have no idea where to put the downloaded template.
Searches find no mention of the folders I expected (the Apple template collections) and nor do they reveal any files with .mailstationery extensions to compare with the downloads.
I remain bewildered & keen for some assistance from any earlier posters that said how easy it was!

I want to double-click on a new customized template (letterhead.mailstationery) and have mail launch and open up with this stationery in place, ready to write an email. But it opens "Doodle"... instead. There seems to be an ID problem... Can you think of a way to fix this and be able to do what is described above?
Thanks!

Shannon, this is doable in the very latest version of OS X which is 10.5.2. They don't talk about downloading templates in the classes, because it's not something that Apple provides. As for the google bar, you will not see the stationery icon until you click to create a new email. It will then appear on the top right hand side of the window. Hope that helps.

I just bought a Leopard OSX and when I took the one to one classes their mail had an icon for stationary and photos, mine has a google bar. They didn't say anything about downloading templets. Is this an older version that you had to do that. Or is that what I have to do? Could anybody walk me through it so I don't have to wait another week to find out. Thanks

Hi Jeff
Brilliant work - your templates really work. I wonder if I could commission you do a newsletter for my company for me? Do you think that could be possible?
Please let me know - I can e-mail you my design idea and if you can work around it that would be great.
I look forward to hearing from you.
All the best

Jeff,

Nope, there is still a problem with the templates. When I download what should be the Grey Letterhead template, I get 'Fun In The Sun' with a green squiggle background. And your Pink Baby template... it's blue, or actually aqua to be more precise. Either way... none of these are really suitable for business emails.
Any chance that this will be fixed?

Thanks!

Hi Jeff,
I downloaded your Apple Mail templates and they are working fine. I wonder how they are made up. Can you make such a template by just doing it e.g in Pages?

Thank You very much!

Hi Jeff!

You have a great blog and some wonderful ideas! Although, there are problems with several of your downloads. I would like to be able to use your gray and white templates... however, the downloaded templates are neither gray nor white. I have downloaded each of your templates hoping that they might have been mixed up. There are no links on your blog for the gray and the white templates... and some of the others are also not what they are described as.

Can you please help me out?

Thanks!

Hi, I just came across your site as i was troubleshooting the stationary templates for mail, wondering if you can help me? I've been using one of the baby announcement stationary templates (without changing it) but when i send it to a PC user it comes up all warped, the text is on a different background and the formatting is different. If you opt to view it as an web page it shows up normally but i fear sending the announcement out to a big list, and having it come out warped for some. Is there any way to change the settings on my side, in order to insure that the formatting comes across accurately to PC users? would so appreciate any insights
Thanks!
