Mistakes Are A Necessary Byproduct Of Creativity

June 21st, 2010 - Jeff Turner

This simply makes sense.

“We don’t get things wrong because we are uninformed and lazy and stupid and evil. We get things wrong because we get things right. The more scientists understand about cognitive functioning, the more it becomes clear that our capacity to err is utterly inextricable from what makes the human brain so swift, adaptable, and intelligent.” via The bright side of wrong.

It aligns with a concept I first heard uttered by Margaret Wheatley in Leadership And The New Science; “Nature loves order, but gets there via chaos.” I believe this is an undeniable truth.

It makes me want to make more mistakes.

Sharing A Book: The Tipping Point

November 23rd, 2009 - Jeff Turner

the-tipping-point-by-malcolm-gladwellI gave four grocery bags full of books to Goodwill today.

The books in the bags were books I’ve had in my bookcase for years. Most of them were purchased for very specific research on topics like appreciative inquiry or psychographics, or simply because they were popular at the time. They were all business related. I gave them to Goodwill because I couln’t find a good reason to recommend them. They simply didn’t stand out in my memory.

The Tipping Point didn’t make it into the bags.

I liked The Tipping Point. It was a quick read with a lot of interesting points to make and a book that lots of other people enjoyed as well.  It is among a half-dozen other books that didn’t make it into the bag, but won’t be taking up permanent residence on my bookshelf. It’s also book I would have purchased for myself had it not been given to me as a gift on 4/21/2000. And if you haven’t read it yet, I’d like it to be my gift to you.

How to get The Tipping Point for free.

Just leave a comment below indicating that you haven’t read this book yet. I’ll randomly select one of the comments and send the book. But here’s the catch: When you read it, you have to write a review, then pass it on to someone else. It’s good to share.

Next on my giveaway list?  A book on blogging.  :)

No Flash For The iPhone

December 7th, 2007 - Jeff Turner

I, Cringely . The Pulpit . Kindling | PBS : : "One product I believe WONT be coming soon from Apple is a Flash plug-in for the iPhone."

This just pisses me off. That's all I have to say about that.

vozMe

vozMe : : This falls into the category of "why?"  The English voice used is horrid, but understandable, but the Spanish voice was both horrid and unable to be understood. Not a good combo.

Tweet Your Google Calendar

November 9th, 2007 - Jeff Turner

Twittercal — tweet your google calendar : : "What is Twittercal? It's a free service that connects your Twitter account to your Google Calendar. Add events in a snap from your favorite Twitter client. Follow the 5 steps procedure to get started." This is old news, but I just have to comment.

If you're a Twitterholic, which is the only kind of person I can see using this, do you even have time for appointments? If you do and you are, for everything to work, Twittercal requires you to give it access to your Google Calendar account. You can deny access to your calendar anytime if you aren't impressed with the service.

Top 10 Sites for Free Stock Photos

: : “Everything on these sites is free at no cost to you, though please do check the rights on each image, as they may be licensed under a Creative Commons license that requires you to give credit to the photographer.” – Webinade.

They’ve done a bunch of top ten lists recently and this is a good one. I’m always looking for good sources of photos, this is a good list of truly free stock photo sites. I love ImageAfter.com‘s filter by color option.
