For Phrase Frenzy Fans – An Update
Caught off guard? Yes. To say we were caught off guard by the response to our Phraze Frenzy portfolio page would be an understatement. We knew the game was extremely popular, but had no idea just how much the game community wanted it to return. You certainly made that very clear.
So, we have decided to revive it under a new name, built on a completely new platform and we plan to launch it in Facebook. We added this to our production schedule just over two weeks ago and we’ve made significant progress, working it in among the other projects on our plate. We have made a ton of progress on the backend of the site, the stuff that is invisible to the user. We have a lobby, chat and some game functions working already. So, we’re well on our way.
Now, what should we call it?
We received some excellent suggestions in the comments and we want to get some of the ones we liked in front of you here.
Word War
Word Fury
Word Herd
Pop Phrase
WhirlWords
Frenetic Phrases
Frantic Phrase
Phrase Flow
Word Whirlwind
Phrase Craze
Super Phrase
Thanks for lighting our fire! We’d love to hear your thoughts.

So excited for this! Thanks so much for working to bring it back, guys! This could be the next big Facebook game for sure!
My favorite of those titles is PopPhrase!
Thanks, Kevin. We’re excited as well.
This is fantastic news! Thank you for bringing it back! My vote goes to: Phrase Craze
That’s our favorite internally as well.
I vote for Phrase Craze also. Rolls right off your tongue
And I think Facebook is a perfect place to launch it! An iPhone app would be great too….
Oh, there will be an iPhone app. You can count on that.
When do you guys think you will have it up and running?
DAX, we’re still early in development, focusing on server architecture. We’ll have a better idea on timing once we get into hard core game programming. Those of you following along will be certain to be part of the beta.
What’s a rough guestamate of a timeline??
?
‘/[;[;;;;;;;;
We are so excited can’t wait to play
Glad the suggestion of putting it on facebook got chosen with all the apps going on right now Phrase Frenzy would be 1 on the list for us
I am so excited for this. Keep us posted on the programming. I used to play this all the time with my friend. Even though I wasnt as fast at getting answers it was so addicting and I loved the game. Thanks for bringing it back.
You are bringing back phrase frenzy, but not lingo!!? WHAT IS THIS!? There were MANY more responses for lingo. I don’t understand guys? Why are you ignoring the pleas for lingo when that was on your table LLoong before phrase was. Phrase was a cool game and all, and, i was sorry to see it go also ,but, let’s be real. Lingo was a MUCH more popular game. What gives guys? I would just like to know.
Well, I can see you’re passionate. You used BIG letters for some of your words, which is always a giveaway.
To be clear: We never said we weren’t going to bring Lingo back. What we have said is that we’re building Phrase Frenzy first.
Ha Jedi! That’s only because you weren’t as good at Phrase Frenzy!
omg music How is it going. I have not seen you in ages and hello all phrase lovers I just found out that the game is being created. I hope that all is well with all you leaguers and non leaguers. I hope that if this game is created, we could possibly revive my league that we had running for a good two years with Jeff’s consent. I sure hope this succeeds. I hope that we have a return
Hey David! Nice to hear from you again!
As long as that Phresh Phreak doesn’t come back ’round, I’m cool and would love to see the game as a game not a yelling and name calling war.
ok, ty for the response jeff
i just thought you guys had forgot about us lingo refugees. i hope a new lingo will come close after. sorry for any misunderstanding. just PLEASE, keep us apprised.i feel i am stuck in “lingo limbo”
I remember JEDIknight…
I think it is a great idea to bring back Phrase Frenzy, but honestly, I would rather have it be just a regular web game. I am not a Facebook user, but lol I would probably sign up just to play this.
I ditto this statement…I do not have a Facebook account but after following these threads and seeing that Phrase Frenzy is coming back, I will have to sign up. Facebook should hire you as promoters
Thank you for relieving my secret pain inside that has been aching since the loss of this fantastical little creation of a game.
Looking forward to the younger, prettier version that’s going to make old phrase frenzy cry alone in the dark.
Oh, and my vote is with Phrase Craze.
There are people out there that don’t have Facebook? I did not know this..
I think it is a great idea to bring back Phrase Frenzy, but honestly, I would rather have it be just a regular web game. I am not a Facebook user, but lol I would probably sign up just to play this.
i’ve been looking all over for phrase frenzy, and am so glad to hear it will be coming back. that game is the most addicting game i think i ever played
I wish it was a regular web game, too.
Is there a date for when it will be released?
I have the same question Derek has.
Wiliam and Derek, we’d love to be able to answer that question with some degree of certainty, but we can’t. We are building this during the cracks in our other production schedules. When we get closer, we’ll certainly let you know! Thank you for your continued interest.
ur welcome. I shall play it as soon as it is up there.
How about an app for Android phones? Afterall, if you do end up naming it Phrase Craze, I think you guys owe it to me since that was my suggestion! LOL…
Is it here yet..?
Is it here yet..?
definately think word herd. in honor of kevin =)
I, too, would love to see an update to the status of the new game? Any timeline yet?
I, too, would love for Mandy to see an update to the status of the new game
When will we get an update on the status of this game? I can’t wait!!!
YAY!! I got on GSN & couldn’t find this game, so I googled it & ended up here. I’m SO glad it’s coming back!!
Thanks to all who are working to get it done!
I like “Phrase Craze” I’m big on rhymes.
That is exactly how I found this! So excited to have it back, and yes, I think Phrase Craze is also the best decision.
Ahhh!! i just signed into my gsn account for the first time in a couple of years. and this game popped into my head and i totally wanted to play right away! sadly i found out it wasn’t there anymore. i want this game now! hahah
I. WANT. THIS. GAME. RIGHT. NOW.
I want this game so badly right now I might even think about paying for it. Thanks for putting it back up!
I have been going through withdraw for so long- totally stopped logging in to GSN as soon as this game got pulled because it was the only game that I played… I am not so patiently awaiting the game on Facebook. To be honest I don’t care what you call it, I’m just so excited you’re bringing it back to us!
so what happened with the game?? What happened to Jeff Turner?? Lets hope he didn’t up and quit his job or get canned before they brought back our game…i’m just sayin’……
LOL… I’m still here. Hard to get rid of me.
The game is still on the back burner. We work on it when we can find spare time in the cracks of our other projects. I wish I could give you a good timeline, but I can’t. Sorry.
Its been on the backburners for over half a year…just saying
Yep. Wish we could stop all of our other paying projects and just get it out the door, but we can’t. Sorry.
good to know you’re still with us, Jeff! at least we still have an ally on the inside – LOL! Keep fighting for us and phraze phrenzy (in your spare time, of course:-D)
so how close are you to releasing it
I was wondering the exact same thing frankie
I was wondering the exact same thing as andrew
Dear Jeff,
I was elated, when I read in March of this year that you had put Phrase Frenzy on your production schedule & had already “made significant progress” and were “…well on your way.”
However, now 6-1/2 months later, there has been no real news about the progress on this. We hope that there is some kind of financial benefit you can gain from this (from advertisers or whatever on Facebook) since you alluded the fact that your paying projects need to be taken care of first (which anyone could understand).
I hope you are able to take the time to read this and respond. I’m sure everyone here, all your Phrase Frenzy fans, would love to hear some more specifics about any further progress that’s been made.
Thank you for your efforts to bring back this game!
Dear Jeff,
Sorry, I incorrectly input my return email address in my original post. Please not the new one.
Thank you.
POOPY
STEVE and JEFFY
If y’all help us find a WordPress coder, we might have more time to work on Phraze Frenzy.
Dear Jeff,
What is a WordPress coder? If there truly is some way people could help, I bet they would.
Your response to my post sounds like you’re frustrated, or maybe annoyed, by people’s eagerness for an update. We are all simply devout fans of your game & we all got excited last March when we heard that a great deal of progress has been made. We are just looking for a status update.
Thank you Jeff for listening to your Phrase Frenzy Fanatics!
Lisa, I’m not frustrated by your comments or any others in the least bit. We would LOVE to be able to find more time to devote to this, but since we’re not out looking for funding to support the development, it simply has to fit in the cracks. Fortunately for us and unfortunately for the fans, we’re so busy we can’t even update our website to a new design we’ve had planned for over a month.
We hear you.
Jeff – What on earth is a WordPress Coder? Is it really a “thing” that we might be able to find somewhere? or is it an “intangible”?
what if we were to secure advertising for our game instead? or better yet, maybe Zeek Interactive could help ease the high unemployment rate and hire a few of these fans to work with y’all on all of your projects…?!?!? it kinda sounds like some of us have a bit too much time on our hands right now……I’m just sayin’………..
hear…you do not
Do too.
respond..only you do
Correct you are.
When is Lingo Plus going to be up and running???????????????
so Jeff, is there a projected date when the game will be up and running?
Andrew, I hope you can tell that we’re not trying to string anyone along here. We don’t have a projected date. We had hoped a “seasonal lull” might give us an opportunity to spend some significant time on this during December, but the pace of paying work coming in does not look as if it’s going to slow.
I absolutely loved this game! Can’t wait for it to come back.
Phrase Craze is my favorite.
I hate to bother you Jeff but is this game actually going to happen? Because I believe I speak for everyone when I say that we have been waiting a very long time for this awesome game to be brought back.
Andrew, we would like it to happen. We think it SHOULD come back. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough bandwidth to make it a priority. We appreciate the energy around this, we really do. But there’s a reason we haven’t published a completion date… we have no idea when it might be.
Any way we could donate to help make it more of a priority? I know you guys have a lot of other projects, but as you can see, a lot of people are passionate about this game. I’m sure everyone would be willing to help!
Agreed
zeek is not interested…its a “dont call us, we’ll call you” kinda deal. RIGHT ZEEKY
This forum came up when I googled Phrase Frenzy…OMG – I’m sooooooo excited about the return of my all time absolute favorite game. I appreciate you guys working w/o funding and your dedication….Ok now…chop chop hurry hurry
. lbs
Don’t get too excited, Adrian. We’ve been waiting for this to happen for months and months..
i like Phrase Craze..
i think you guys need to make it a priority ;P i miss this game!!!!
PHRASE CRAZE
PHRAZE CRAZE!
Huge fan of Phrase Frezy. Cant wait for its new debut on the web. Title suggestion: Phrase Mania, Phrase Mayhem, Phrase Fury. Can it be put on another website rather than than just facebook?
I vote Phrase Craze! so excited!
I wouldn’t be too excited, if I were you. Look at the date this article came out.. nearly a freakin’ year ago! They probably forgot about it
Haven’t forgotten. We have one game ahead of this we’re currently working on.
Glad to hear it Jeff. I can’t wait for this game. It’s gonna be awesome!!! Do you know if it’s just going to be released on Facebook though or will it be just a general online game as well?
I don’t understand why it was so suddenly dropped or why the name can’t remain the same?? But if it has to change Phraze Craze would be the closest to the original title. I just hope it’s the same game!
I’d vote for Phraze Craze as well. Can’t wait for this to return, I really hope it all works out.
Apologies for the double post but maybe you could look into something like a Kickstarter project (kickstarter.com) and if you manage to accumulate enough money it could become a full paying project?
Hey Jeff are there any updates regarding the status of getting this amazing game back online?
Any news? As the name suggests, I am getting antsy.
They’re taking their sweet time..
Any news on when or if this game will come back?? I am personal friends with alot of people who enjoyed this game and I think i speak for them to when i say this game was so fun! Missed dearly!!
Why can’t you guys put a little add-bar in the top of the game and make money off of Phrase Frenzy (the original name is best) and therefore, make it worth putting your time/resources into it now…?
Ryan, I know that sounds like a simple solution, but a game like this requires about $50-100K of resources. There is no guarantee that a game will make that back. We wish we could move faster. Really, we do, but we’ve been unable to move other projects out of the way long enough to give it proper attention.
Jeff,
Sorry to keep pestering you. But would there be a way of possibly letting us know around what time the game will be ready to play as well as how far along it is to being completed?
Andrew, we haven’t worked on anything with the game since getting up some basic server functions to manage staging of participants and basic multiplayer activities a few months ago. We have on other game we’re working on ahead of this one in our production schedule. We don’t have a target completion date. Sorry.
It’s been over a year… just saying..
My story hasn’t changed in a year… just saying.
I wish it would
continually…
As long as you guys insist that it will indeed come back at some point in time, I’m satisfied. I really miss the game, but I understand you guys have a lot of projects to handle before you can get to it. Just keep in mind how much desire there is for this game!
I agree. And I also can’t understand why other games seem to have top priority over this game which many people have been asking for for over a year now.
Will the same soundbytes be in the game? I neeeed to hear yiippeee!!!! Again. Lol.
My sister and I would be elated to see Phrase Frenzy again. We used to play it for hours a day in the summer time (along with Lingo).
I hope you guys finish it soon, so that we can play it before we get too old to enjoy it!
David – there’s no such thing as too old to enjoy anything! Don’t sell the old farts short – one day you’ll understand…..
I just came across this page and got SO excited! This was my favorite game and I was very disappointed when it was removed from GSN. As for the new name, my favorites by far are Phrase Craze and Super Phrase. I hope it gets finished quickly, so many people are wanting it now! I can’t wait!!!!!
get yer thumbs out of certain areas…
Has it really come to this, JEDIknight?
What games fo you have in front of Phrase Frenzy on your production schudule, and are their any other games that you can suggest while we patiently wait on Phrase Frenzy to return?
Right now we have a multi-player game called Word 4 Word that’s ahead of Phrase Frenzy.
Just one game ahead of it? Sweet! Dare I say that its finally coming soon?
Oh, BTW … Droid app please!
Soon is a relative term. All of our personal projects take a back seat to paid client projects.
yes. your lackadaisical nature has allowed it to be so…
Our hard work for our paying clients has allowed it to be so.
Languid…
Extremely relaxed, yes.
What is this Jeff and JEDIknight? The testoterone wars? You two are almost ludicrous in your banterings. This stupid thing – the game – has its upfront costs, but might pay for itself in the end with the ads. Nevertheless, PF has been gone 20-1/2 months from the GSN sight and we have been hearing it’s being worked on for almost that length of time. We all miss it, yet Zeek is going to take however long they take to get it back up and running. Everyone’s nagging has not sped up the process. It may never come back – at least that’s what several PF fans I still know predict. Let’s move on.
pf, I enjoy the banter with Jedi. I assume it’s good natured. We’re not trying to lead people on, I hope I’m not giving the impression. It’s a game that we created, so we obviously love it as well. We just don’t have the resources to move on it right now. And, you’re correct, there is a possibility we may never have them. That said, it has moved up in on our job board and we’re now considering moving it ahead of Word For Word. So… I apologize if I’m offending anyone. I’m just trying to be good natured about the work ethic comments.
actually, if your paperwork is straight, LINGO should be ahead of those AFORE mentioned. lol… have a nice day, and, may the force be with you…
I get these comment updates by email and some of these comments are really funny! Glad to hear that it’s being moved up! I came up with Phrase Craze so I hope it sticks! And an Android app would be awesome! Just sayin’
BRING BACK PHRASE FRENZY BRING BACK PHRASE FRENZY!!!!!!! That is the only game I can play for hours and hours that was my favorite game I wouldn’t play anything else well I can’t say that I use to play lingo but my favorite is phrase frenzy there is nothing out there like it If anyone no of any game like phrase frenzy please post something so I can past the time until it comes back. Thanks for any suggestions.
Any new updates on the Phrase Frenzy front?
Jeff – so any good word for us long-suffering fans of Phrase Frenzy? I was hoping you guys would get ‘er done for summer 2011 but doesn’t look like it, does it? Surely you haven’t gone on summer vacation already have you??!! – Just sayin’… !
Well, if you look at our most recent post, you’ll see we’re having a bit of a hard time finding a full-time wordpress coder to take some of the burden off of our development team. No luck so far. That doesn’t bode well for any internal projects.
It aint gonna happen, andrew and bunny. Abandon ship. I smell mutiny…
you would…
aw…come on, JEDIknight…I think I love you, too!! But smelling mutiny? What, pray tell, would that smell like, exactly?! Ya gotta have faith, man, – ya gotta believe Jeff wouldn’t string us along for as long as this already if there wasn’t a concerted effort being made behind the scenes to get our PhraseFrenzy back – otherwise, why would he bother?! Stand back and see the forest, JEDI, before you get so close to the trees. Do you think Jeff considers you his personal boy-toy?! Not at all – I wanna believe he is sincere and is busting a** to get this game back on line……
Laurie – Find Jeff his much-needed decoder ring, or whatever he said he needs, then maybe it’ll come back by 2013. Otherwise … who knows …. I loved that game. I’m not sure Jeff is really getting just HOW MUCH so many other people loved it, were almost addicted to it, lived on that site, played it from school during their free periods, played it before bed to relax, made it into a game at family gatherings (did you ever notice how many people were online with it on Thanksgiving Day?), played it in bed while they were laid up sick with nothing else to do, and I could go on and on. It’s been 34 months since it was taken down off the GSN site and people are still literally BEGGING for it to return. Thirty-four!!! That shows a devoted & loyal & devoted fan base.
Add me to the list. I am waiting with baited breath for the re-introduction of this game. Granted it wastes a LOT of my free time, but I Love it! Seriously, it there this much of an outcry for any of the other games you are working on?? Move it up the list, guy!
I feel bad that I have to say this but I’m seriously starting to lose hope.
all of zeek has
lol
Next month, which by the way starts in 2 days, it will be 2 years since PF bit the dust off the GSN site & still so many devotees hanging on! Two YEARS – not 2 weeks, not 2 months, but 2 years!! These Zeek-Nerds couldn’t care any less than they already do about the people who play the game they put out. They care about what they’re personally gaining & forgetting that their end-user, the one that should count & the one that consists of hundreds of fans & who has been on their site following their non-progress & consistently BEGGING them to make it happen – their end-seer (all of us) should be the ones that count. How lucky they are (& too bad they don’t realize it) that they make something that ie not only well-received, but something that is not easily forgotten. Sooo many games & products out there are forgotten once they’re gone: “Out of sight, out of mind.” That has not been the case with Phrase Frenzy. Out.of sight, but has.not left our minds. These guys are taking our adoration of their product for granted. They seriously don’t get how incredible.it is to make something like this game, maintain a strong fan base for years after its complete disappearance AND have people regularly begging for them to bring it back for us. Who else is more important than the people they make the product for? Have they just been spitting on us for 2 years? Idk. But, we have been a patient group. Jeff. Seriously. Set aside ONE week. Get some people on it. You said you already got a hung of stuff started last year. Get a site to host it. Make money. Make your followers happy. We’ve.waited 2 years. Dude – you’re taking longer than CalTrans is taking to widen the 405! I saw you’re also in CA, so I know you will know what I mean.
Oh, and I remember that one of reasons you gave before for.having such a tough time making it happen was because you didn’t have a WordPress Coder (which I thought was something you would purchase). But, low & behold I discovered on your site that it’s a job title & that you were advertising for it on your website as far back as March 25th of this year. You must’ve gotten one by now. Since this was what so vitally needed in order to move.forward & finish Phrase, let’s go, Jeff! Get that garlic press word Coder decoder whatever on this.
I agree, pfFan, it has really been a LONG time – and we, the devoted fan base have been suffering without recompense. Im beginning to thing Jeff may have taken a permanent summer vacation and left us all to hang out to dry forever. Do you think this game is really going to come back again? My heart says it will but my brain says no way.
I have been looking at this website from time to time and it still has not changed. Can you guys please me and the fans if there has been at least some progress? Phrase Frenzy was one of the games I played EVERY DAY on http://www.gsn.com I look forward to the return of this game if it happens.
lol…
gameshowguy, hey, don’t hold your breath on phrase frenzy coming back! We, like you, have been waiting endlessly but it appears we have been shortchanged and Zeek isn’t gonna find a way to get this game back for us. Jeff T has been stringing us along and tho he means well, it is obviously some higher up corporate decision and due to the financial aspects of it all, this game and its fans have been left on the back burner and forgotten…..just sayin’…..
Jeff…the puppet
OK, gang. We’ve been pretty open and honest with you all here, so I’ll continue on that route.
We met with another game developer this week to discuss working jointly on this and a few other games we have in our heads. They are giving it some thought and will be back to us shortly. If they come back with a positive, we’re going to dramatically speed up this process. If they come back with a negative, we’re probably going to kill this and move on. We simply don’t have the resources to build this and do quality work on other projects in house.
All you have done is tarried. YOU are a sojourner, turner. You’d be the first I would throw off of the ship to the sharks. But then, what use would THEY have with you…
Lol.
Thank you, Jedi.
Jeff,
While I do thank you for being open and honest with us all, I feel that I have the same right to be honest with you as well. I have to be honest in expressing my severe disappointment regarding the fact that this amazing game, which I know all of us here miss and have wanted to see return for quite some time now, seems to have been given a 50/50 shot of ever coming back. This disappoints me a great deal because it would have been one thing if you had just simply said “This game isn’t coming back” a year ago, but to string us all along for this length of time and make many of us hopeful that this game would one day come back when in fact it may never return makes me feel like you simply never cared about whether this game would return or not. Now I hope that this is not the case and I truly want to believe that you have tried your very best and done all you can as far as attempting to make the return of this game a reality. But to lead us all on for simply a “maybe” seems quite unfair to me when I really looked forward to the fact that Zeek Interactive was going to bring this game back with a launch on Facebook as well as possible iPhone/Android Apps as well. If the decision for this game was going to wind up as “maybe”/”maybe not” then you never should have had us give ideas for new names of the game and everything else in the first place unless you were positive that the game was going to come back eventually. While I’m really sorry to have had to go on this long rant, I just felt the need to let my feelings known not only to you but to everyone else as well, who wanted to see this game return once again just as much as I did. So I guess in the end, it’s just simply a matter of what the game developer says when they get back to you. If you guys get the green light, well then that will be great and like you said the process will be sped up dramatically. But if that isn’t the case, then unfortunately I guess that you’ll simply have to “kill this and move on” and everyone on this site will be back to where we began with hoping to one day see the return of this game. I sincerely hope that this developer will return with a positive, but until they do, I guess that I’ll just have to sit here and wait and see what happens.
That’s great you have met with a game developer. We all hope these people will be interested in working on it with you. However, should they not be interested in doing that, they are not the only game developers in town. And, in this job market, I bet there are a lot of people like them, or who have the same kinds of skills like they have, who could do this, too. Heck, I bet there are some college interns who would love to take on this project for the rest of the summer. Interns = little pay.
Glad to see you’re trying to keep us in the loop. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket, Jeff, should these people not work out. Find another developer eager for a paycheck, find a cheap intern, hand it over to a PF Fan online here who can get it done. So many options!
Hey Jeff, you see what you are doing right there, though? You are continuing to what you have been doing that is the source of everyone’s, or at least a sizable portion of the bloggers’, complaints regarding your conduct. You are attempting to keep our hopes intact with your statement about the game developers you are meeting with, conveying to us the possibility that they may agree to take on this project. That only strings us along further, which may (and in my personal opinion, will most undoubtedly) lead to their rejection of the offer, due to beliefs that this is not a lucrative endeavor for them. What happens then is that we, as impatient PF players chomping at the bit for the return of this game, are only further disheartened, and in turn, disappointed towards you. Although you did mention that it is in face dubious as to the outcome of the situation, it would be more proper, in my opinion, to simply keep the aforementioned information you shared with us covert, and not to have us privy to any possibilities until it is a for sure assignment that is agreed to be undertaken. And if that possibility is diminished to an unprobable enterprise, then if you were to say anything to us, you honestly should let us know that it “will not be returning”. This way we do not keep our reveries of this game present, and if in fact, by a small chance, it does return, shoot us with the surprise. This way, the news is anomalous of what is expected, and you don’t consistently have people badgering you with their complaints, which I’m sure you tire of. I, of course, would really care to see this game come back, but after being fed uncertain facts for a year and a half, I cannot trust that there will be any followthrough on what you have told us. I’m not a consummate game programmer who knows how to reenact this game, so, of course, our only hope of a re enactment is you. At the very least, demonstrate our eagerness to the game developers. It really sends a message to people. Peace out all.
Skooler, I’m not trying to keep your hopes up. I’m trying to be transparent and accurate in my communication. What I’m trying to convey to you is that we had a meeting and that there is a possibility. The moment there is NO possibility, I’ll let you know.
As for demonstrating your eagerness, the link to this post was given to them to show “community interest.” We have NOT received a response from them yet. As soon as I do, I’ll let you know.
dot dot dot laughter ensues
that goes for dorothy too
…but JEDIkight, Toto has run off again…albeit this time, it was at the mouth…just sayin’
It’s cute how bunnyhop is always “just sayin”. Kinda fluffy too. Nice tail. (dangles a carrot in front of bunnyhop)
Lol. Lol.
I guess at this point the one thing that everyone is looking forward to will be the response that Jeff receives from the game developer. Until then we will all have to just play the waiting game (keeps fingers crossed)…
OK, Phrase Frenzy fans. We’ve made the decision to shelve this project indefinitely.
We simply have other projects that require our full attention and we don’t see this changing in the near future, and our attempts to find partners to work on this with us have turned up empty.
Thanks for all of your comments (especially you, @jediknight) and for expressing your desire to see this game come back.
Here’s the best idea ever, give another company whatever you guys have now and be done with it since it’s not important to you. We care about the game just as much as you guys do (or at least we thought you cared)! You don’t want it, give it to someone else!
Tatianah, anyone can do anything they want with this idea. Nobody can copyright game play. And none of the old code we have or the server code we deployed or the lobby system we created in the last year will have much value to anyone wanting to build it on their own. Seriously, anyone who has the skill is fre to go for it. Several people in this thread appear to know a great deal about what it take to actually build a game, so perhaps one of them will step up. We’d be happy to see it come to life again.
As for our caring… we created this game. When I say that I mean this: we didn’t just build it. Phrase Frenzy was ours from concept to creation to finally selling it to Game Show Network. So, to say that we don’t care about it is not even close to reality. Zeek is in the midst of severe growing pains. It’s all very good, but we haven’t even had time to update the design and layout of our own website.
Now, I’m going to go be the 12th person to sign the online petition: http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/official-phrase-frenzy-petition.html
BOO-URNS. It was nice seeing other Phrase Frenzy fans! Take care everyone…
Well there’s the surprise of the century…
Thanks a lot Jeff, I knew I could always count on you.
…sigh…
Jeff Turner is Mongolian. May the force be with you, Zeek interactive.
He’s a Mongolian? Of course! That explains everything!
I’m thinking a general boycott on all Zeek games is called for……..what’s with them thinking they know better than the fans/players what games we want out there? How much clearer do we have to be that we want phrase frenzy and NOT whatever stupid games they are “working on”?! WTF Zeek? And Jeff, you tell ‘em for us that we’re extremely disappointed and I for one will never play another of their games unless/until it’s PF.
This is just great. We have been waiting for how long now? I checked this a few times a week, because I thought Zeek would realize how much we want this back. But no, apparently our comments did nothing. Well, thanks for leading us on, and as bunnyhop said: “I for one will never play another of their games until it’s PF.”
YOUR MAKING A LOT OF PEOPLE MAD!
PF FANATICS LIKE US DIDN’T WAIT SUCH A LONG TIME FOR IT TO BE SHELVED.
SCREW IT.
THIS IS STRAIGHT UP BULL!
YOU KNOW YOU COULD HAVE JUST PUT UP BACK THE OLD ONE!
LilShawty211… no, sorry, we could not have just put “the old one” back up. The old version of the game was written in Shockwave. It’s an outdated format. A new game requires a complet rewrite from scratch. Gang, we created this game originally. We know exactly what it takes to build it and what kind of programming and time is involved. We also love the game as well, again, we created it. We’re just not in a place where we can make it happen right now.
Ya know, Jeff, PF FANATIC (the other one who wrote in caps) really made a good point and, I for one, hadn’t looked at it that way. Shockwave still operates and powers other games. Why wouldn’t it be possible for us (the users) to continue to download the Shockwave updates to continue to make it work? If hundreds and thousands of us were playing it regularly using Shockwave, I don’t understand the need for a different format either. If it’s outdated, jeff, how is it possible for other games to be using it?
Did you ever simply consider hiring a computer game whiz, on a one-time short-term contract, whose one and only job would be to update the game? 2-3 weeks (or whatever it would take a “whiz”) to update the game the way you say is necessary and then that’s it. They don’t work for you beyond that. You could recup the cost of hiring that person with some of the many ads we be viewing before entering the game (like we had to put up with before). Pretty easy to do this.
Or sell it to someone who will make it a priority and get it done in the next month(-ish).
25-26 months it’s been “off the air.” Not that many fewer months since you told us all, and got us hyped up, that you were making extraordinary progress.
Thanks, PF FANATIC, for pointing this out!
pfFanAtik (the other one), three things.
First, we’re not interested in building this is a format that would not allow us access to Facebook. For that, the game needs to be flash.
Second, we sold the existing Shockwave code to GSN. We no longer own the rights to that code. They own the rights and they control what can be done with it.
Lastly, game play is not copyrightable, so any of you can feel free to create this if you like, using any of the suggested methods outlined by commenters in this stream.
Hi, Jeff –
It’s good to have a discussion about this – I’m not arguing with you, just wanting to discuss. So …
You are not building this, at the moment, and “seem” to have given up on the idea of building it in Shockwave or any other format. However, addressing your Point #2, it would seem easy and reasonable enough to contact GSN to regain the rights to the Shockwave code, since they no longer host the game and have future intention(s) to do that.
And, to address #3, you could certainly put it out to people the idea of working on it, under your supervision since you created it and know the most about it, and completing it to some of the people here, so that you keep your word about doing so and keep your oh-so-loyal fan base. After all, Jeff, in this job market, I’m sure there are many people who would love even a part-time job … and it’s in California!
C’mon Jeff, stop looking for ways this can not work and sounding so defeated and look for ways that it can, because you know it can.
Oops! I meant that GSN has no future intention(s) to host this game.
(nudges jeff) psssst…open your eyes jeff. WAKE UP!!
Wake up to what, Jedi?
possibly Jedi means for you, Jeff, to wake up to other ways of getting this done… because there’s always options and plan B’s out there if you are willing to look for and consider them…just sayin’…
I’m with the Hopping Bunny on this. You rock and have earned more carrots for the month.
If this is actually going to happen, when would be a potential release date?
There’s a surprise. We all need to find a way to bond together on this till it happen. Our voice is never heard anywhere
I agree 100% will. If we ever want to see this game come back one day then we should start an online petition or do something else of that nature to show the strong support of the Phrase Frenzy community. I mean, there are Facebook fan groups and everything. It’s unbelievable just how many people (myself included) want to see this game return.
Same person who yu replied to b4. I am sick of our voices never being heard for anything. I am still mad GSN took my account off their for something I apparently did on that game and then they remove it cuz they said too many ppl were abusing it. Well too many ppl r leaving ur website GSN. What is the point of freedom of speech if nothing we say is listened to. We all could have banded together to find someone who could have spent the time to develop this game again but other ppl have things to do besides listen to the ppl. I am sick of being disrespected as should the rest of us who commented on this
jeff rides mongolian ponies
There’s no way you can prove that.

SIGN UP!!!!!!!!!!
^^ Good idea! ^^
Alright peeps…I loved loved loved this game as well. But really? You are harrassing, or nagging might be a better word, this developer because it hasn’t been put back online yet. I mean, most people would come write a comment, check up on the blog once in a while and go on with their lives…
So, we have decided to revive it under a new name, built on a completely new platform and we plan to launch it in Facebook. We added this to our production schedule just over two weeks ago and we’ve made significant progress, working it in among the other projects on our plate.
B.S.
Random322, actually, it wasn’t B.S. We run a fairly active development company. It’s just coincidence that at this same time in our history, as we were about to hit a lull in production, our client load increased dramatically. We’ve grown more that 100% in the time since this post was written and we haven’t slowed down. We haven’t even been able to get our new site template up. The cobbler’s children have no shoes. It’s all good, for us. For those of you who loved the game that we created (and by created I mean this: it was our original concept, we are not just the people who coded it), perhaps not such a good thing. I’ve tried my best to be open and honest with you all here in this comment stream that has become a sort of user forum. I’ll continue to do that.
ppsshhhahhahaha
Please bring this game back!!
I am also a HUGE fan of phrase frenzy. I’ve been following this thread since GSN removed the game from their site. I just wanted to give Jeff a thumbs up for hearing the fans even if you can’t do anything for us right now. Also, so hilarious that you signed the petition to bring back phrase frenzy. On a side note I haven’t been back to GSN’s website, because there was nothing left for me there
Has any progress been made on this?
I don’t believe that Zeek is still focused on working on Phrase Frenzy. I can’t say that with 100% certainty, but I have a strong indication that that’s the case.
Andrew, about 20 comments back I said this, “We’ve made the decision to shelve this project indefinitely.” You are correct.
What games do you currently have in production?
We have no games in production currently.
So what’s stopping Phrase Frenzy?
All of the other projects we have in house.
thumb twiddlin and handjackin
How very true Jedi…
…and riding those Mongolian ponies, huh, JEDI? So, Jeff, why don’t you share with your loyal and eternally optimistic fans what else it is that is keeping Zeek from working to bring back phrase frenzy? Like, what exactly do you mean by “other projects we have in house”? If there are no games currently in development, what exactly are you guys working on? And why can’t one person devote a portion of their workweek to bringing back our game?? We don’t understand………. is it just those Mongolian ponies or why is all we hear, “Neigh neigh neigh”?
@bunnyhop we’re busy working with clients on their paying projects. Rebuilding Phrase Frenzy is not a simple project and would take away time from the projects that pay our bills and keep everyone here employed. Simple as that.
THAT SLOWED HER UP.
@ Jeff: Do you think there is ever going to be a time when you unshelve our game? Or by indefinitely, are you really saying you’re done with it forever?
Bunnyhop, forever is a very long time. I’ll say this again… we created this game. We didn’t just build it, the game was our idea. So we dig it. It’s not something we want to give up on. But we need to put the right resources to it to make it worth doing. Right now, we simply don’t have that luxury. So, I’m saying indefinitely, not forever.
well, that’s something to be hoppy about, Jeff! Thanks for the clarification between “indefinitely” and “forever”!
LOL
Pewsistant wittle wabbit.
@ Retrogressive: lol! well, somebunny’s got to stay on Jeff about it – you see, he’s a mongolian without his own “hare”
I’ve read his bio and about the different projects he’s involved with. He’s got a pretty big plate he is trying to work off of. Zeek was involved with the web side of one of the radio stations close by. I know they have many things they are involved in. Phrase Frenzy will come back…just give’em time.
It’s good to see passionate people on both sides of the issue.
anything new on phraze frenzy details i was a big fan of the original
Any update?!
Jeff – are we still in the “indefinite” stage? No further move toward “forever” shelving it? You see, we are still trying to keep the HOPE kindled that eventually our game will be restored…
We are. Though we did discuss this on Monday at our team meeting, since GSN launched a single player version of Lingo to the iPhone recently.
BRING BACK PHRASE FRENZY!!!!
Jeff,
Have there been any updates on the Phrase Frenzy front?
Man I miss this game..
Play phrase friends as a good substitute. It’s an app in the app store
Now I am not sure about this and I don’t want knock Jeff and the zeek guys, but if you have an apple device there is a game called phrase friends. I have absolutely no idea if its phrase frenzy like or even close, but it’s worth a try. Again, it’s Phrase Friends. Either the paid or free version. Enjoy!
We don’t feel “knocked” at all.
Well it’s more like wheel of fortune but its fun. Nothing beats phrase frenzy, although its a good substitute for the time being
