I setup a Tumblr account but haven't actively used it. I do use Twitter, so if you lump Tumblr and it's ilk into the micro-blogging category, then I suppose that's my preferred platform for quick shares. There is a consumption issue. Reading tweets isn't as visual as it should be. Links to videos or images should show up inline (as they do on Tumblr). The iPad Twitter app does this a bit better, but my favorite app for browsing tweets is Flipboard, where images, videos and even web pages show up inline.

I see your point about WordPress getting close to the mark. Using WordPress to do what Tumblr does is never going to be as simple as Tumblr, mainly because WordPress does so much more. But I personally like the idea of having a little more control over my content. Not everyone cares, or has the desire to manage their own WordPress site, but for those that do, it's not that much work.

The better bookmarklet? It will come. Post formats are brand new. By not adding too much structure to the capability, it leaves the door open for developers to get creative. In the next few months (weeks even) we'll see some innovative approaches to the problem that might not have been considered if The Solution was built-in to 3.1.
